Frequently Asked Questions

It’s natural to have questions about starting therapy. Below, you’ll find some of the most common ones I hear, with answers that might help you take the first step.

General Therapy Questions

What can I expect in my first session?

I consider it crucial that from our initial encounter, we begin forging a bond for our therapeutic journey. We’ll delve into your past Counselling experiences—identifying what was beneficial and aspects you’re hoping to modify.

My role will involve facilitating our conversation to deepen my understanding of you and your network of support and love. We will talk about your aspirations for the Counselling process and the ways I can assist you.

How long does therapy take?
It depends on your needs. Some people see significant progress after a few sessions, while others find ongoing support helpful for longer periods.

Specific Therapy Types

What types of therapy do you offer?

I provide individual counselling, and walk-and-talk therapy.  Individual sessions are offered in-person or online.

What are your areas of focus?

My areas of focus are trauma & PTSD, perfectionism & people-pleasing, anxiety & overwhelm, self-esteem & self-criticism, and life transitions & personal growth. I tailor my approach to meet your unique challenges, ensuring you receive personalized support.

Online Therapy

Is online therapy effective?

Research has shown that virtual sessions can be as effective as in-person therapy.  Online therapy can offer flexibility and convenience when you are unable to attend in-person.  The choice is yours.

What do I need for online therapy?

A dedicated hour of uninterrupted time in a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.

Payment And Insurance

How much does therapy cost?

My rate is $235 for a 60-minute session.  I understand that financial situations can vary, so I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots to make therapy more accessible. While this option is based on financial need, please note that it is not guaranteed for everyone and depends on my current availability for sliding scale clients. If you’re interested, we can discuss this further during our consultation to explore what might be possible.

Do you accept insurance?
Some insurance plans do cover therapy. Check with your provider to see if psychological services are included.
Do you offer direct billing?

At this time, I do not offer direct billing. However, I will provide you with a formal receipt so you can submit it to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What forms of payment do you accept?

My preferred form of payment is by e-transfer. I also accept credit card payments with a 3% service fee.

Appointments And Availability

How do I book an appointment?
Booking an appointment is easy! You can call me directly or use my online booking system. Visit the contact page for more details.
Can I reschedule or cancel?

Your appointment time is reserved especially for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 48
hours’ notice so that the time can be made available to another client.

Because each appointment is set aside specifically for one person, late cancellations or missed sessions cannot
easily be filled on short notice. When this happens, it leaves a space in the schedule that another client in need could
have used.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged half of the session fee. Cancellations made with
less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments without notice, will be charged the full session fee.

Location

My practice is conveniently located at 1700 Varsity Estates Drive NW, Calgary, Alberta. I also offer online therapy for clients throughout Alberta.
